State Route 84/I-680 Interchange Improvements – Caltrans

The project will improve SR-84/I-680 interchange ramps and extend the existing southbound I-680 high-occupancy vehicle/express lane northward by approximately 2 miles. The purpose of the proposed project is to alleviate traffic congestion, improve operations and safety, and improve bicycle access on SR-84 and at the SR-84/I-680 interchange. Cellular concrete (Class IV, 160 PSI min) is being placed around the 140 piles that support the concrete barrier as part of the widening scope on the project. The dimension of the cellular concrete fill is approximately 4.5’ wide, 30” deep and about 2 miles in length.  One of the main advantages to cellular concrete on this project was not just that it is a lightweight material but also it is convenient to place, and the equipment has a very minimal footprint. We are easily placing material simply by moving our equipment and setting up a hose line down the length of this project as needed.
