PROJECT LOCATION

San Diego, CA

The Project

IQHQ’s Research and Development District (RaDD) is currently under development in downtown San Diego’s waterfront. This 8-acre (5 city blocks) waterfront site will host 5 buildings (labs, office, retail) for a total of 1,700,000 sq ft. The project has many landscape areas located above underground structures. A lightweight fill is needed to reduce the overall fill loads on these structures.  A permeable and flowable fill material is also needed around planter and building structures including irregular shapes.

The Solution

A total of 15,000Cy of permeable cellular concrete will be placed in the landscape and traffic areas at varying depths of 1 to 4 feet. Locating our mixing unit over 800’ away from the placement area is a huge win for this project as only a hose passes through the site.  The benefits are more space for other trades and accelerating the project while reducing heavy equipment movement.  The permeable material also allows any residual water to find its way down the fill to the drainage system below.
