Contact grouting is the process of filling or sealing voids between two surfaces in contact with each other. These voids are often created unintentionally during a tunnel or shaft excavation and need contact grouting to achieve a tight contact between the structures to help prevent ground settlement.

The Solution

For this project in Los Feliz, Cell-Crete performed contact grouting on the outside perimeter of the shaft. We used lightweight cellular concrete (LCC) to fill this space between the outside the dirt. LCC was a solid choice for this type of project because in addition to filling the void, we were able to create ground stabilization around the shaft as well.
