Louis’s first memory of being exposed to the family business was in about 1958. He remembers his dad bringing home his first truck along with his first designed pump and foaming system.
Around 1992–1993, Louis took over Cell-Crete from his father, Louis, Sr. who was living in Northern California at the time, while Louis worked out of the Southern California Corporate office and oversaw the day-to-day operations. Louis currently sees his role as a mentor and sounding board to our next generation of managers whether it’s sales or production.
He views his father as a visionary regarding new product lines, applications, and development, and sees himself as a facilitator. Starting with a small crew doing a few jobs to learn “sometimes the hard way,” they figure out how to grow it in size and geography, perfecting the efficiencies by hiring the right people, and giving them support to operate and grow their division.
Though Louis has worked on many interesting and prestigious jobs over time, he cites the Las Vegas City Center as a project that highlights Cell-Crete’s level of skills and challenges. Cell-Crete provided Elastizell Insulating Concrete Roof and Plaza Deck Fill along with Engineered Fill at the main entrance and floor leveling on a multitude of towers along with the main casino floor areas. It took five different crews working day and night shifts to complete the opening date requirements.
Since he joined the management team, Louis has pushed and emphasized the importance of safety. He continued to develop standard operating procedures for all of Cell-Crete’s locations. As a family business, the fundamental belief of “family first” reflects his views on safety.
Working with both his father and grandfather, he’s learned that family business influences the amount of mutual respect and social responsibility in the workplace. Many of our employees have family who have worked with us before, and it shows how much we value family in Cell-Crete.
Maintaining and improving our current business and level of client satisfaction puts Cell-Crete’s name out to potential clients, and introduces opportunities to use our products in creative solutions. Carrying on the Cell-Crete legacy means carrying on destiny and tradition, while having pride and responsibility.
Louis Fisher, Sr. started in the concrete business in the 1950s when he founded Elastizell of California with the partnership of Al Southard and Walter Olson. They developed lightweight concrete floor fill for the sound reduction market during the booming wood-frame apartment construction.
When his partners retired or moved on, Louis, Sr. developed California Decorative Coatings (waterproofing for walkways and decks). After one year, he came back to the cellular concrete business and changed California Decorative Coatings into Cell-Crete Corporation. Their unsung motto was “to produce and install materials that met the growing needs of the contractor, owners and renters for a comfortable shelter at a reasonable price.”
Louis, Sr. enjoyed being at the beginning of the lightweight floor fill construction market, working on its development and seeing it expand across the country. Making new friends and partners—it was truly a wonderful time. When it came time for retirement, he was pleased to hand over the reins to his son: Louis.
Business Development
As Vice President of Production, Joe manages the Hayward office. He enjoys being part of what Cell-Crete has grown to be and looks forward to the new challenges brought on by innovation in the construction industry.
Joe started with Cell-Crete Hayward in 1982 as a laborer breaking bags of Gypcrete in the floor department. After acquiring his commercial driver’s license, he was moved to the roofing department as a pump operator.
After spending 2 years in the field, he was transferred to the corporate office in San Gabriel to learn to be an estimator in the floor department while working with the Elastizell floor crews as a pump operator. He eventually became an estimator selling Gyp-Crete and Elastizell floors and was transferred back to Hayward as a floor salesman. As the business grew, Joe was promoted to Vice President of Production.
Vice-President of Cell-Crete Corporation
Patrick’s current duties are Vice President and the Northern California Roof Department.
He began his career at Cell-Crete in 1988 sweeping the warehouses and restacking gypsum bags on pallets. He worked into the field as labor, later learning how to finish Lightweight Insulating Concrete (LWIC). Patrick then was trained to become an estimator for both the gypsum floor decks and roof departments which led to full-time roof LWIC estimating and project management.
Patrick was a Past President and current BOC member of the National Roof Deck Contractor Association (NRDCA), a Roof Consultant Institute (RCI) affiliate member. He’s currently working with the National Roof Contractors Association (NRCA) on redefining LWIC on roof decks in their Low Roofing Slope Manual.
Manager, Engineered Fill (EF) Division, San Diego and Imperial Counties
Rob manages Cell-Crete’s EF (Engineered Fill) division in the San Diego and Imperial Counties. This includes project management of each individual EF job working with engineers, contractors and crew on the design and feasibility, following through to bidding and procurement into construction.
After serving four years in the United States Coast Guard, Rob started in 1985 for a small San Diego-based subcontractor doing lightweight floors and small roofs. In 1993, he moved to the Pacific International Grout Co. and managed all of their work using ready-mixed concrete materials. In 2014, he operated his own company, CRG, Inc. dba Pacific International Grout Co. and joined Cell-Crete in 2017.
He likes working for this family-run company due to the accessibility of the principals who are available and present at department meetings.
Other notable clients that Rob has worked with include Southern California Edison Company (San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station), Pacific Gas and Electric (Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant), The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, and the San Diego County Water Authority, City of Omaha.
Cellular Concrete Vice President
Diego manages Cell-Crete’s Cellular Concrete Division, and is responsible for all work in all states in which Cell-Crete performs work. He considers himself lucky to have some of the best field and office staff in the country since his number one goal is to deliver successful projects on budget and on time.
He started his construction career in a small home-building company his brother started during the housing boom. He began at Cell-Crete as a draftsman in 2007 when he was a sophomore in college working on the City Center in Las Vegas project.
He likes working for this family-run company since it has allowed him to make a lot of his own decisions and be involved in every aspect of the business, which has helped him grow professionally.
Some of the notable clients he’s worked with include Tutor Perini Corporation, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Kiewit Corporation, Atkinson Construction, and Golden State Boring & Pipe Jacking, Inc.
