Mountain View Corridor Construction

Project Location

Utah

The Project

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is making significant strides in the construction of the Mountain View Corridor, designed to provide an alternative route for commuters in northwest Utah County. This project focuses on the critical missing section between 2100 North in Lehi and Porter Rockwell Boulevard, contributing to a broader initiative to create a continuous freeway that connects Interstate 80 in Salt Lake County to State Route 73 in Utah County.

Key elements of the new freeway will feature two travel lanes in each direction, a 12-foot-wide multiuse trail, and seven grade-separated crossings. Construction is expected to be completed by early 2026.

A significant component of this project is the strategic use of cellular concrete, which has been necessitated by the presence of a waterline located beneath the new road right-of-way (ROW). To prevent potential damage to the waterline from increased grade, UDOT has selected lightweight fill materials. Approximately 19,000 cubic yards (CY) of Class II cellular concrete will be employed, with placement planned over a span of 19 days. This method not only expedites construction but also helps to reduce traffic disruptions in the vicinity.

In Utah, 42-ton loads of bulk cement are being transported, with each load capable of producing around 190 CY of Class II cellular concrete. The adoption of this lightweight fill solution is essential for maintaining the structural integrity of the freeway while effectively addressing underground utility considerations.

As construction advances, UDOT is committed to completing material placements before the arrival of cold weather. Stay tuned for more updates as this transformative project continues to progress.
