Project Location

Point of Rocks, WY

The Project

Past the local herds of pronghorns in Point of Rocks, WY is a substation for Rocky Mountain Power. This substation needed to add another four large transformers on concrete pads. The weight of this equipment combined with the concrete and rebar to support it is heavy enough to cause concerns over potential settlement. This project needed a lightweight fill material but needed it readily available and in large quantities.

After coordinating materials and the pour plan with Summit Line Construction, we brought our equipment to the site and setup a mobile batch plant that could place the material from a central staging area. This solved the need to have material readily available and by using LCC it eliminated the need for compaction.

Overall, it was a good project that solved a unique problem. We got to work with a great team and found another use for LCC in the energy industry. Whether our material is used in the city or next to a lonesome railroad amongst herds of pronghorns, we will continue to help our clients succeed pouring the only lightweight flowable fill.
