How did you first hear about Cell-Crete and get started in the industry?

I had my Class A license, and I used to be a construction driver for equipment, so I did lots of traveling for inspectors beforehand. Later, I went from the trucking business into construction after finding out about Cell-Crete through a newspaper ad and applying for them in 1999.

What is a typical day like for you on the job?

My day starts with driving in the mornings. Sometimes I have to be at the job even as early as 4:30–5:30 AM. I go to the yard to get the equipment before I head out to a site. At the site, I set up the equipment and see what we’re doing so we can plan out the field. Here, I would check things like how far we would need to pump and whether we have enough product for the day. Sometimes, we have to get the job done quickly to avoid delaying traffic. Other tasks include talking to the contractors about the project and guiding traffic with cones.

What’s one of the best things about working here?

There are new challenges every day. It’s not routine or boring. There’s always something new…that’s what I love about this job.

Do you have a favorite project that you’ve worked on here at Cell-Crete?

I would say they’re all good projects. I don’t have a specific project I like to work on because I’m open to lots of opportunities and new challenges.

Any advice for someone just starting in this industry?

How do you define success?

Everything comes within hand. My success is getting the job done. You always have to be able to adjust to the situation. I have worked at Cell-Crete for 20 years my optimistic attitude has allowed me to take on any challenge and learn something new every day.

What do you like to do in your free time? 

My family is #1. I like staying with my family because I’m mostly working out of town. Just being able to spend time with family is what I like to do in my free time.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a very straightforward person. I spend more time at work than I do at my own house, so most people already know a lot about me. The people at Cell-Crete are like another family to me.

What is the next item on your bucket list? 

Since I already travel a lot for work, I just want to be home. My kids go to school, so I want to be there to watch them grow and eventually graduate.

Do you have a favorite saying?

“El arroz ya se cocio!”. The direct translation is “The rice has cooked!, meaning “The job is done!”.
